While I walked along the path of life,
I got used to looking at the road, below or far ahead,
Always wanting to know exactly where I was going.
Well, my friend, let me tell you something
A truth worth knowing...
As I stared at the road,
I realized that by looking down I would never see
The beautiful guiding light that was always there for me.
With my sight set on heaven above,
I don't need to look down anymore
For the One who guides my path knows it all,
Every stone, every turn, every bore.
The essence of the light is to trust it all the time;
It guides me with precision, better than if I led.
It shows me the way step by step, little by little;
There is no need to get ahead.
I would be a fool to take a shortcut on my own,
For I may lose my way, fall, tumble...
The mighty light empowers me and sets my course,
But I must renounce my pride and become humble.
You see, the light is the Lord God of all;
He freely gives more than the world could offer me,
Comforts with abiding grace
And faithfully rebukes the enemy.
The days that I'm weary
Or make a colossal mess,
My merciful Lord gently reminds me,
"Keep going my child, I love you no less."
My friend, no matter what has happened along the way,
Whether you have fallen a thousand times and trip a million more,
Keep your eyes on our Mighty God.
He has traced your path father than your eyes can see
And guides you with his unconditional everlasting love.
